Once you complete the ground attack (likely to take two or three attempts and resupplies to dwindle their forces) it counts towards you total of 10. Towards your later stages in the game you'll wipe the floor with them and be glad of the money, but in the beginning you'll likely not want to drag it out. Timing is key here as the pirates will recall more pirate vessels to help defend their enclave. Repair, re-enlist your deck hands, restock their weaponry (guns AND swords) and then dash back to the hideout. Always, always back out here and QUICKLY return to the nearest and largest port to hand. With these all out of the way you're presented with one final option to begin the ground attack. They start strong and decrease in strength as you break through their defences. Once you start the attack on the hideout you'll encounter between three and seven pirate vessels which will try to ward you off. Once you've found them you'll need a hefty fleet to attack with. You can discover these either by sailing around, investigating the coastline around pirate controlled waters or by buying tips in the taverns which point you in the general direction. Typically along hidden and tucked away parts of the coastline, when you hover over them with your cursor the X option will be to 'attack hideout'. To unlock this you'll need to clear out 10 pirate hide-outs which are those black flags you'll see on your map. The beauty of this system is that it eliminates the need to leave and resupply with men and weapons and thus reduces the chance that the pirates will regenerate more convoys. It contains 1 iron ore rock, 4 mithril rocks, 1 adamantite rock and 3 coal rocks. Otherwise, it will take a second run at it using the non-attacking ship. The Pirates' Hideout mine, or Pirates' Mine, is a mining site located east of the Pirates' Hideout in the deep Wilderness. If the ship I'm sending in is of suffient strength, the hideout can be taken in one go. At this point, I can either abort the battle with the convoy I'm currently using and send in the convoy that is still on patrol or I can carry on the fight with the current ship. After fighting several additional pirate convoys (2-5 of them), I can reach the hideout itself. Then I send in my newly arrived convoy to attack the hideout. All subsequent attacking pirate convoys will be of less strength. This eliminates the strongest force the pirates can muster. While that is happening the convoy on patrol has usually fought and won a pirate battle. Dream-like images revolve around the mystery and the secret. While it's waiting to catch a pirate convoy, I send another convoy to the hideout. These stories are somewhere between the odd and the ordinary. I start by sending one convoy to the hideout and set it on patrol. To take out pirate hideouts, I usually attack using 2 convoys that have high fist power.
